Founded in March 2023, Project Prism is a social initiative focused on expanding access to drama education and performance art within marginalized communities. Focusing specifically on youth development, with the idea that holistic education at a young age can be the impetus behind lasting social empowerment, it has conceived of several intersecting initiatives to encourage cross-communication through theater. This includes a comprehensive resource for high school volunteers to conduct interactive workshops at local non-profit organizations, delving into storytelling, movement, and the fundamentals of improvisation. Furthermore, to make alternative pedagogical approaches more accessible, we have conceptualized a teachers’ manual that discusses the processes involved in setting up drama studios along with ways in which creative exercises can be incorporated into daily classroom activities. We also plan to facilitate a series of writers’ workshops that will help students explore the nuances of script-writing, which will then culminate in the formation of a children’s theater troupe with our partner NGOs. Project Prism hopes to ignite a large-scale movement of community-focused art practices, one that offers a creative outlet for youth where they can shine and pursue their passions.
